How To Swing A Golf Club
Golf Swing Aids To Improve Your Golf Swing

"A good drive makes all things possible." --Tiger Woods
Hi I'm Craig Stevens (no not the PGA pro) and I love to swing a golf club, but I can still remember driving home from the golf course, not that long ago, thinking... "I've had it with golf! I'm just going to break those *&^% clubs in half and toss them in the garbage"Does that sound familiar? WAIT... Here's help!
|
Completely by accident I discovered a simple but powerful golf swing aid that improved my golf swing to perfection (well 99% perfection, I still have one or two issues), which I'll tell you about in a minute, but first, if you are new to golf or even if you have been around the block a few times, having problems with your golf swing is a common thing... However, I've found a simple, fool proof way to fix it FOR GOOD and and since it worked for me, it will work for anybody. Plus I have a lot of other resources here to help show you how to swing a golf club correctly and really improve your game. Ready to get started?
Here's a quick review of the six basic steps to a proper swing.
The Basic Golf Swing Consists Of These Six Steps:
Step 1 Shift and Rotation: The first move is to lean away from the ball about one inch to the right.
That transfers your weight to the inside of your right leg and towards the heel of your right foot.
Step 2 Your Backswing: The completion of this step happens when your left arm is parallel to the ground
and your club is at a 90 degree angle to your left arm. At this point the end of the club should be pointing
somewhere between your body-line and the ball/target line. Don't worry too much, there is still plenty of freedom at this position.
Step 3 Transition: Your upper body should have 90 degrees of shoulder turn, 90 degrees of wrist-hinge,
and 90 degrees of elbow bend. Your lower body should have about 40 to 50 degrees of hip rotation
and your left knee should be slightly behind the ball. The clubface should be level to your shoulder plane,
or in line with your left forearm. This indicates a square clubface.
Step 4 The Downswing: The downswing is initiated by the entire lower body shifting toward the target and
your right shoulder bringing the right elbow down to the right hip.
Step 5 Impact and Follow-Through: This starts at impact and finishes with full extension.
At impact, your left arm should be straight with a straight or slightly bowed left wrist.
At this point your right arm is straightening but is still bent, and the right wrist is bent back but preparing
for maximum extension in the follow through. Your weight has been transferred onto your left foot,
and rotating back toward your left heel. Sounds more complicated than it is.
Step 6 The Finish: This is actually the final fundamental of the golf swing. All great players will finish in perfect balance.
At this point you have now fully transferred your weight onto your left side and your belt buckle should face the target.
Here's what it looks like when done by a pro. Looks so easy!
Well even after all that I still didn't know how to swing a golf club right. I still had my swing problems like my awful slice and hook. One day I decided I was really going to try to do something about it. At the time I was getting golf tips from friends, who were not all that good themselfs and from people I talked with at the clubhouse, but I could not really tell what was helping and what was not. Hitting bucket after bucket of balls at the driving range just seemed to make things worse and make me mad. I needed some sort of golf swing aid.
That's when I happened to see these "hinged" golf clubs advertised on the Golf Channel and thought "that sounds like it might actually work" so I tried them.
Man, at first my driver was "hinging" every time I swung it but I could feel exactly when it happened during my swing and with a little practice my swing improved to the point of perfection. I could not wait to get back out on the course and impress my friends.
If you think you might want to try these yourself here's a link to their site:
Hinged Golf Swing Training Aids made by Refiner Golf
Back then I had never heard of "hinged trainers" but I've got to tell you they are very effective. These golf swing aids work by bending at the hinge if your swing suffers from any of the following problems: (I think mine suffered from almost all of them!!)
- Excessive grip pressure - Makes it tough to achieve sold contact with the ball.
- Open / closed club face - Will cause the ball to sidespin. (The dreaded "slice".)
- Improper swing plane - Causes a larger twisting torque.
- Casting - Causes a huge loss in power. Place a headcover 16 inches behind the ball. Try to hit the ball without hitting the headcover.
- Improper lower body movement - Get more distance by managing the upper body versus the lower body.
- Incomplete follow-through - Affects accuracy and distance.
Like me you'll improve your tempo, find the ideal grip pressure and finally swing on plane. Wow what a difference these clubs can make in your golf swing. In fact these clubs are so effective that there are now at least two companies making them.
A golf buddy of mine bought a set made by Medicus and she loves them. I have not tried hers but they work on the exact same principle and you might want to compare the two, so here's a link to their site:

If you are brand new to the game of golf, these hinged golf training clubs will be a great investment in yourself, because with these golf swing aids you will learn how to swing a golf club correctly without having to "un-learn" any bad habits.
And for those of us who really want to know how to swing a golf club, these special golf clubs can be worth their weight in gold because we can at last finally completely correct those pesky swing habits that affect how we swing that golf club and how much we enjoy this wonderful game of golf.
Here's Some More Simple Tips On How To Swing A Golf Club
The question of how to swing a golf club is as eternal as the game itself, and the level of science that has gone into the research can be frightening. Investigations have been made into the optimum angles, power and stance for the swing. When researchers consider biomechanics, there are so many different muscles of the body involved in the swing that the possibilities and variations are almost endless.
In fact it is all of the variations thrown up by the research aspect of swinging a club which make most people think it is a lot harder than it actually is.
If you stand up, and pretend with your two arms that you are hitting a baseball, you have pretty much mastered there and then the art of swinging a golf club. All you need to do is make simple adjustments to that to take into account the fact that the ball is set on the ground instead of coming at you through the air, and you are on your way.
The stance or set up position you take as you address the ball is vital. If you get your body in the wrong shape here, your muscles through the whole swing will be focused on correcting this misshape in the body, and a lot of energy and direction is wasted.
Once you use a correct stance, the next step is the backswing. Although people focus on the arms here, in fact if you imagine that you are turning your back on the ball, you will find your arms naturally following along. This turning of the back also means you are generating the torque required to get the speed into the club.
As for the downswing, you simply need to let gravity take its course! If you try and force your arms down, you will tighten your arm muscles when they should be relaxed, so again imagine the turn as coming from your back. Focusing on the back instead of the arms is often the key to correcting an inaccurate swing.
For the strike and follow through, do not imagine that you are hitting the ball. Imagine that it is just another practice swing, and the ball just happens to be in the way. Again this will help to keep your arms relaxed, and not trying to force power behind the ball.
This swing by this stage will have your arms automatically following through. Keep your head down when the ball has gone, and wait for your arms to push your head upwards. Keep the back loose and flexible.
If you follow these tips on how to swing a golf club, you will find that with less effort, you actually get a better result and a better round.
I hope I've helped you with some practical ideas and methods to improve your golf swing to perfection. I almost gave up golf but now I swing with the best of them and you will find me out on the course every chance I get. See you in the clubhouse
